Rice Straw

Rice straw consists of the stalks left behind after paddy is harvested and the rice grains are separated. It is one of the most widely available forms of agricultural residue in rice-producing regions. Because collecting and managing it can be difficult, large quantities may remain unused or be disposed of through practices such as open-field burning.

Our rice straw leather seeks to convert this agricultural residue into a useful plant-based material input. The straw is processed so that its fibrous content can become part of a structured material system. Through further formulation, finishing and testing, the surface can be developed in a range of textures and colours for different applications. By creating value from rice straw, we aim to demonstrate how commonly available farm residue can become part of thoughtfully designed, next-generation materials.
